Denver’s downtown region is located in the High Plains just east of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. In 2005 the Downtown Council expanded its boundaries to include everything west of Broadway to I-25 and south of Speer Boulevard. This new area is sometimes referred to as “Central Denver” or “Downtown.” The city’s “Central Business District,” or what could more accurately be described as its “downtown,” comprises about 55 square blocks, including the 16th Street Mall and surrounding area. Downtown Denver is bound by Auraria Parkway on the east, Colfax Avenue on the north, Interstate 25 on the south, and Speer Boulevard/Park Avenue West on the west.
